Start here
Use your fingers or two forks to pull the jackfruit into shreds. Cut away any very firm core pieces.

Step 2
Heat avocado oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the onion for 5 minutes, then add garlic, smoked paprika, onion powder, and black pepper.
- 03
Step 3
Add jackfruit and cook for 5 minutes, pressing and shredding it with a wooden spoon.
- 04
Step 4
Pour in barbecue sauce and broth. Simmer uncovered for 12 to 15 minutes until thick and sticky. Taste and adjust salt or heat.
- 05
Step 5
Mix cabbage, carrot, vegan mayonnaise, vinegar, and maple syrup in a bowl. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
- 06
Step 6
Toast the slider buns. Fill each with barbecue jackfruit, slaw, and two pickle slices.
- 07
Finish and serve
Serve while the jackfruit is hot and the slaw is cold.

Vma’s notes
Use young green jackfruit, not ripe jackfruit in syrup.
The filling keeps for 4 days refrigerated and reheats best in a skillet.
